Get to know Me:

Hi I’m Riah! I love everything backstage specifically set and costume design. I’m from Manchester and moved to Cardiff, Wales for university.

I am currently in my third year studying Design for Performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. In my first two years I learnt a number of skills, and took part in a variety of design and creation work for theatre and television, such as; costume design/ making, prop design/ making, set design/ making, scenic design and wardrobe.

In university I have worked on a handful of productions, costume making/ wardrobe/ dressing, such as Crybaby (for the Richard Burton Theatre RWCMD) and Guys and Dolls (for the Sherman Theatre, Cardiff), as well as creating a variety of conceptual designs, working with a director, for both costume and set.

Going forward, I am eager to focus on costume design for theatre and TV as I am extremely passionate about illustration and love to see how costume design can elevate a character. I am excited to see my work translate onto stage and screen. I believe that my work costume assisting, making, dressing and conceptually designing has prepared me for working in the industry.

I previously took part in The Royal Exchange Theatre’s young company programme, as part of their 2023-2024 makers group, where I took on the role of costume designer / maker for Joe Greenway’s original play ‘How do you know what lemons smell like?’. In college I also participated in extracurricular backstage where I did everything from set and costume design/ making (for Six junior edition, Tartuffe junior edition), prop/ set design and making (The Addams Family junior edition) to lighting design and stage management (Little Women junior edition)
